Customer Management System

There are tons of systems out there trying to improve business processes of utility companies in general or electric companies in specific.

The key is still doing the re-engineering process well and the application system will just a tool to follow the processes. I put some of my thoughts about Electric Management System in this blog. Feel free to read and comment.

Bypass Meter - You want to know how to bypass meter?

With the electricity tariff hikes, many customers of utility company is trying to bypass the meter. In this case, I will be specific in Electricity Meter. The most common meter bypass that is done by customer is by putting a jumper in meter terminal. You can see the picture of meter by pass here. This kind of meter bypass can be easily noticed by reader when they go regular reading of your meters.

Another type of meter bypass is by removing external potential copper on the terminal. This kind of fraud is hardly noticed because the reader will not pay attention on the terminal copper when doing the reading. See the picture of by passing meter using external potential open.

Double feeding can also be a type of meter by pass as it will not register the whole consumption of electricity. If you meter cable is over the ground, than it will be easy to do. However, it is one of the easiest one to notice. Unless the cables in your area is so crowded that it is difficult to notice which one is legal and which one is not. If the cable is under ground, it is difficult to tamper but when it is done, you are less likely to get caught in near future. Readers seldom check the underground connection unless there are troubles. See double feeding here.

Customers are encouraged to do meter bypass because it seems common to them. They see neighbors are doing that, why should not I? Especially when they encounter that the personnel from electricity company is offering that services for some dollars.

Nevertheless, in most countries, doing meter by pass IS A CRIME! So think twice or even a thousand times before doing it. You are not only cheating to the electricity company, but also you are cheating the community.
- When you steal the electricity by bypassing meter, you increase the commercial loss of the electricity company. In the end, the company needs to raise the tariff to cover all the commercial losses that it encountered.
- When you steal the electricity by bypassing meter, you increase the load of transformer and cables in your area. Electricity company has a reason to put a breaker near cables and transformers. This is to ensure that the load will not over the planned load by the company. Increasing load to the cable can cause sparks and will lead to fire. Increasing load to the transformer can cause the transformer to shut down for protection. This will shut down the whole electricity in your area.

In conclusion, it is nice to know how the meter is bypassed. But DO NOT do it. Warn your neighbors who are doing it!

What if it's the other way around? What if it's the electric company that's cheating its customers by overpricing their charges? Meralco, our electric company here in Manila, Philippines, charges us for electricity we don't even consume (which they call system loss). The rates here are much, much higher than those in our neighbor Asian countries. Who wouldn't be tempted to do something like this for revenge?

Everybody here expressed themselves in english, the fact that u didn't have the respect to do the same and posted some crap reflects your spoiled limited understanding. Regarding the single line in english, don't worry, nobody's upset, we all understand that insulting people you know nothing about is due your low IQ.
Don't overcklock your little brain to generate more crap for an answer, I won't be visiting tis page anymore.

THEN HELL YES, FUCKING BYPASS THAT SHIT.

Just pleasee dont get caught, cause the Philippine law is much harsher i'd imagine.

Yet I find that to be the ONLY "reasonable" cause for doing this.

If you can TRULY afford the bill and yet you insist on bypassing it. Just so one can have a few extra bucks in one's pocket? Then no, doing this sort of action is detrimental to the company providing the service.

If you have a legit cause. Do so.

No one is stupid, people act stupid, so you should be able to accurately define what is legit and what is not.

I find the Philippine aspect, very disturbing. I wouldn't view your action as being an act of thievery, yet more of an act of "civil disobedience." You are correct, it is absolute bullsh*t.

Our electric consumption has jumped substantially, this month. I have no air conditioners but my neighbors who has two, has much, much lower electric bills? What the hell happened here?

It is unfair!!!

Thanks.

Hey, lots of info here but the real problem now is I have been in the hospital with a stroke for 3 months. The electric bill is now over $800 and I have not been here.
They say it is monthly charges, I said Crap! In any case they are not turning it on without $843 and that is surely $840 more than I have.
I was told you can turn the meter right or left and the power will come back on. True? I am goin in for a Bypass in 6 days so I can not see paying the $800 for 6 days when I may die at the operation.
Not trying to be a crook. Just realistic!! Can I turn the meter and it comes on? Which way?
It seems like it needs to go deeper into the box. But it has a metal ring around it. . . . .
I dont want to go to jail, just live through the operation, but without oxygen I wont make it to the surgery. . . . . . .
any quick info would keep me alive! ! ! ! Serious!!! I will check back soon, today 12/2/2008.

BE WARNED In Australia. If you do it BE WARNED $10,000 fine per charge or two years imprisonment. People will brag about what the get away with but they never tell you where they have been for the last two years. That would be picking up the soap in the prison showers ooooohooo . Plus they cut your power off and costs a hell of a lot to rewire the entire house up to today's standard and will take weeks and weeks to get it connected again. Take it from an expert as I have been there and for the tiny amount that I was bypassing for(an air conditioner) prison really sucks and hurts. --______ Now I have Hep B and a loose back end all to save a few bucks. :( ______ Also there is the huge risk of electrocution and if someone else dies in your house from a fault that you caused from your dodgy wiring you better wish that it was you. :(

I think everyone has a reason or cause to pursue this type of action.

Energy companies and their investors have suppressed clean, free energy technologies for over 100 years, in order to keep their monopoly and strangle hold on the consumer...

Just check out, Nikola Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower, Stan Meyer's Water Car & The Bedini Motor to name a few!!

If you can get away with it, and you have the balls, go for it!

Zitgeist: I vould agree more. In the UK, our enegry costs have TRIPLED since all of these wars in the Middle East. They claimed that the hikes in prices were due to "shortages" in oil.

However, in recent months the cost of a barrel of oil has PLUMETTED. In the UK, OFGEM (energy regulator) are trying to "pressure" energy companies to lower their prices in line with recent drops in oil. They have basically said "NO, it is staying high!"

So basically, the moment these energy companies get the chance, they hike prices up. When it's time to lower the prices they point blank say "NO...fuck you!"

I say if anyone has the knowledge or skill to rip-off these criminal energy companies...THEN DO IT!!! Good luck to you!!

Even if you do get caught, you're not lkely to be sent to jail. Apparently most countries prisons are already overcrowded and they need the space for REAL criminals, like corrupt Politicians and theiving Energy company CEO's who earn millions yet still rip-off their lowpaid employees by stealing their pension funds.

FUCK these greedy energy companies!

i think our company is overcharging us big time! I have a $540 bill, yet I turn off lights constantly, we practically work in the dark, turn it hotter when not here, etc...how does a company REALLY know how much you're using..You can't tell me that all of these companies send a guy out to every single house in america every single month 1x/mth to read it, you have locked gates, lazy workers or no show at all..how do we know they're really reading our meters? Is there something on record that will show us our actual readings??? government or elsewhere?

Anonymous said...

All these energy companies are ripping us off. Our governments won't do a damn thing about it because they are paid off. Why won't our government use wind or solar? It would be cheaper and clear. They are bribed by oil and power companies. It is a sad world we live in. It is time for a revolution. Everyone should bypass their meter. They cannot jail all of us. POWER TO THE PEOPLE. WE WANT JUSTICE.

***I have a question about this matter,,How come this is illegal? As you can see i still paying for the meter reading right? but in the other way or other side you just have a device to minimize your electircity and you are not tampering or connecting an illegal wire. EH how about the power saver the one who's on tvshopping they don't catch them or they don't stop selling this device, its also disame, this device give electricity consumption lower, but the only different about this two is the double feeding get electric at the underground while the power saver device is just plug into your outlet.

Im just wondering if its illegal or not? I know some people doing this stuff bec. they know this is a big bucks for them.

PECO Energy is another ripoff. The bill includes an "Intangible Transition Charge" which is money that is used to pay back bondholders for $1 Billion that was borrowed 10 years ago, and the charge will continue till Dec. 31 of 2010 (which they will probably legally file a Motion to extend it). When your bill is higher, this charge is higher. My share of this charge, over the summer, was more than $20 on three consecutive bills. What a rip-off.

we can hack electric meter here in the philippines, in fact you can control the meter, imagine if you have 2 airconditions and you only want the lights to be metered? or you want the specific outlet to be metered? or in the night you can totally stop the meter while your aircons are in full blast, in short you can set the meter in slow mode middle, fast or full stop.. well, we can do all of that and well hidden in the comfort of your own house or room, we have 2 kinds of plan for those who are interested, but first you need to know what kind of line you,re in, there are 2 kinds of line 1st is the metro manila kind of line called line to line, and 2nd is used in some province called line to ground, for the line to line service fee = 50K pesos and for line to ground =30K pesos, this is absolutely safe we did this to politicians and celebrties.. contact= email us at electricmagician@yahoo.com

Anonymous said...

In the UK,if you want to pay nothing for your electric on a permanent basis the do as follows:snip through the seal on the bottom panel, unscrew the central screw at the bottom, remove the panel which will show four or five terminals (four if a single rate, five if a two or three rate meter)Next wet your index finger and place it over the terminal on the left hand side (the live terminal)You will never need electricity again!!! RIP..

hey i've got a new hack..... open the meter base and, with your bare hands (you cant wear gloves, they get in the way) take two pieces of wire, strip them bare, and tie them in to the top terminals of the meter base. after you've tied those in, tie them into the lower terminals, make sure to have the brakers off inside the house, you dont want to hurt yourself. after that, close up the meter base, replace the seal, and enjoy your low cost energy.

This is to all the people who think someone bypassing their electric meter is a thief. FUCK YOU!!! I have bypassed my meter for the last 15 years in one way or another. The utility companies are a complete fucking ripoff. It is criminal what they charge for a person to live. I will continue to hack, crack, and bypass anything and everything I can. You can call me a thief if you want. But I'm a fucking survivor. To the metermaid who's crying about job security for him and his bitch, 15 years and still bypassing you sackless faggot, and not a damn thing you can do about it.

we have a prepaid box. we took over the rent contract from friends, who just forgot to tell us that the meter was bypassed. how do we fix this, seriously, its bad. the municipality wants the contract, that we dont have and if we contact the owner, there is also trouble, he does not know we stay in his house at this moment

Hi there, now listen to some good advice, DO NOT TOUCH OR TRY TO BYPASS YOUR ELECTRIC METER, DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU ARE TOLD ON HERE,its really simple, there are a lot of qualified electricians out there who will do it for you, simply ring a few and you will find one who will do it for you. We got one who did a great job and hung a switch below the meter box we could switch to normal or bypass, the switch was hidden under a loose floor board below the meter box, and we never ever had a problem even when the meter was read, and yes electric companies are rob dogs so do it but get a qualified man to do it for you, and YES most electricians have their meters by passed, its the norm for most.

Anonymous said...

I have always had extremely low electric bills for almost 23 years now. Yes, I am a thief I suppose to some. I stole a meter from a vacant house. Knowing when my meter us read, I simply swap meters a week or so before its read, then back again. The security wire is VERY carefully cut with a pair of wire nippers I made on my grinder. Wire nippers that look like needle nose pliers. Reach way down inside plastic tag and just nip it. each time I change the meter you cant tell its been cut the wire tucks down inside the plastic casing just far enough. If its pulled on, yes you could pull it open but the burden of proof is on them to prove you are the one who did the deed. You just keep your mouth shut, lie, deny and demand proof!

oh, my meter is well out of view, I built a privacy fence around it with a gate of course and store my shovels, rakes, ect inside...

Totally agree. Electricity should be free for all. Bypassing is not any more immoral than a greedy electric company. Beat the system I say.
