Customer Management System

There are tons of systems out there trying to improve business processes of utility companies in general or electric companies in specific.

The key is still doing the re-engineering process well and the application system will just a tool to follow the processes. I put some of my thoughts about Electric Management System in this blog. Feel free to read and comment.

Slowing down electric meter

In my previous post, I wast posting about how to by pass meter (electricity meter). The commonly done is by tampering electric meter. Tampering does not always mean to open the meter and manipulate the internal process of the meter. The common meter tampering is just by use magnet to slow down or to stop completely the disc rotation.

I was looking at this video that I found. The author of this video seems to do a lot of stuff with magnet with the main objective is to slow down meter disc rotation. I am not quite sure why he needs to put wire, cup, water, etc. Only with magnet alone, this can already slowing down or completely stop the meter disc from rotation.

In any case, doing these kind of meter tampering is easily noticed by electricity company (through readers). And in most countries, doing such an illegal activities can end up to a penalty bill or even a jail terms. So, think twice again if you want to tamper your electric meters.

Read Department of Energy Fact Sheet on Power Factor
http://www1.eere.energy.gov/industry/bestpractices/pdfs/mc60405.pdf

Most motorized home appliances (air conditioning units, refrigerators, freezers, ceiling fans, washers, dryers, dishwashers, pool pumps, vacuum cleaners, furnace blowers, etc.) operate most efficiently when they’re operating at full capacity. When they’re not working at full capacity they pull more energy than they use, wasting the difference.
And let’s face it, rarely does any appliance or device in your home constantly work at full capacity. In fact, the average home in America today operates at a power factor of .77. That means 23% of the electricity being delivered to the home is being wasted by the use of motorized appliances working at less than capacity.

You can increases that power factor, in most cases, to .97 or .98, therefore increasing the effective use of your electricity and lowering your usage.

I can't believe they destroyed a power adapter just to get 2 pieces of wire.

What a retard.

Mohammad,

Yes, this is possible to tamper a digital meter, even more easily than a idnuctive meter. The digital meter has to use current transformers (CT) for current measure, not shunt resistor or Rogowski coil. If digital meter do not use CT, there is only one possibility of tampering - if the meter has got a mechanical counter, not LCD. There is steppen motor, which is not resistant to external magnetic field comming from e.g. very strong neodymium magnets.

Dear Adam,

can you show me how to do it by slowing down the digital meter and the most easy way e.g. if use magnet how to put it and so on. thank you

On my meter (Elster E111), there are 2 small screws... they both have a minus sign(if turn in an anticlockwise direction) and a plus sign(if turn in clockwise direction)....
Can someone please tell what is the purpose of these screws?
